THE TEST

What people actually say afterwards

Magic is hard to sell in words, which is why this page is mostly other people's.

Every performer's website says the same three things. The useful test is who has booked them more than once, and what those people are willing to put their name to. FTI Consulting have used James for their top tier corporate events for half a decade, across the Middle East and the UK, and their head of marketing for the region has said so on the record rather than through a booking agent. That is a different kind of proof to a showreel, because a showreel is edited and a five-year relationship is not.

FIVE YEARS WITH FTI CONSULTING

The longest relationship on this page, and the one that answers most questions.

We have been using James for our top tier corporate events for half a decade, where James has perennially wowed our most important and senior clients. He is a trusted partner to our events and has delivered across the Middle East and UK and always mixes high levels of professionalism with a product that never ever ceases to amaze and delight our audiences.
Sunil Mashari
Head of Marketing and Communications, FTI Consulting Middle East and Africa

What is being praised there is not the tricks. It is reliability in front of the clients a business cannot afford to bore, across two regions and five years of events, which is the thing a procurement team is actually buying.

More of what hosts have said

James was the highlight of our fundraiser. His performances held every table from the stage down to the last handshake, creating genuine moments of wonder for every guest.

BRITISH BENEVOLENT FUND, EVENT ORGANISER

We have had James perform at several private events. His mentalism is genuinely unbelievable and he is always professional, discreet, and brilliant.

PRIVATE CLIENT, DUBAI VIP EVENT

Both say the same word in different ways. Professional and discreet are not what you expect people to praise in a magician, and they are exactly what a host needs when the room is full of their own clients.

CLIENTS

The brands that have booked him

Over 20 global names, and the work is why they came back.

Coca-Cola, Bentley, Amazon, Microsoft, Salesforce, illy, Levi's, FlixBus, Designers Guild and Freshfields have all booked James. He has performed at private royal family events, where discretion matters more than a credit, and at the British Benevolent Fund fundraiser. He has appeared on the Lovin Dubai Show for an interview and a live performance, and been featured in Madrid Metropolitan. He has performed for TOWIE cast members and is represented by Motivate Talent.

See it before you book it

Three showreels, and none of them is a montage of reaction shots with music over the top.

The latest showreel
Stage and close-up work from recent events, cut so you can see full effects rather than just faces.
Stage highlights
The headline slot as it actually runs at a gala, with the room and the timing intact.
The Lovin Dubai Show
A live television performance and interview, which is the closest thing to watching him work unedited.

If none of those match your event, ask. James will send footage from a room like yours rather than his favourite clips, because a corporate gala and a wedding reception are two different bookings.

What the record actually proves

A logo wall proves somebody paid once. These four things are harder to fake.

01
Repeat bookings
FTI Consulting across five years and two regions, and private clients across several events.
02
A named referee
A senior marketing lead willing to be quoted under their own name and title.
03
Magic Circle membership
Admitted by examination, not subscription, by the London society founded in 1905.
04
Nine countries
Eight years of work that travels, which means the act does not depend on one friendly local room.

The rooms behind the reviews

A logo tells you nothing about the night. Here is what these bookings actually were.

The FTI work is corporate hospitality at the top end, where the guests are a firm's most senior clients and a flat evening costs a relationship. The British Benevolent Fund booking was a charity fundraiser, where the job is to hold a room warm enough to give. The royal events are private and stay private. The brand bookings run from product launches, where a prediction has to land on a name, to staff celebrations where the audience is a thousand people who have never met the performer. Different rooms, different jobs, and the reason James recommends a format on the call rather than selling the same show to everyone.

What every one of them has in common

Eight years of bookings across nine countries, and the feedback keeps landing on the same three words.

Professional, discreet and reliable. Not the words a magician usually chases, and exactly the ones a host needs when the room is full of people they are trying to keep. It means arriving early, finding the coordinator, working around a running order that has already slipped twice, and stepping aside without being asked when something scheduled overruns. The magic is the visible part. The reason people book again is the invisible part, and it is why FTI Consulting kept going for five years rather than trying somebody new.

How to measure whether it worked

There is one honest test, and it happens after everybody has gone home.

Ask your team on Monday what people talked about. If the answer is the venue, the food or nothing, the entertainment filled time. If three separate people describe the same moment, and one of them gets it slightly wrong, it worked. That retelling is the whole product, because an event your guests describe to somebody who was not there has done more for you than one they merely enjoyed. It is also the reason mentalism outperforms a band on this measure, since nobody has ever gone to work and described a playlist.

Checking a performer before you book, answered

What makes a famous magician?
Television usually, which is a poor guide to whether someone can hold your room. The better test is repeat corporate bookings, a named referee, and a professional body that admits by examination. James has all three, and has performed for royalty and over 20 global brands.
What is the Magic Circle?
The Magic Circle is the world's most respected magicians' society, founded in London in 1905. Members are admitted by examination rather than subscription, and can be expelled for exposing methods. James is a member, which is a working guarantee of skill when you cannot audition someone.
Can I see James perform before booking?
Yes. There are three showreels on this page, including a live television performance on the Lovin Dubai Show. If none matches your kind of event, ask and James will send footage from a room like yours rather than his favourites.
Which brands has James performed for?
Coca-Cola, Bentley, Amazon, Microsoft, Salesforce, illy, Levi's, FlixBus, Designers Guild and Freshfields, among over 20 global brands. FTI Consulting have booked him for their top tier corporate events for five years, across the Middle East and the UK.
Has James performed for royalty?
Yes, at private royal family events. Those bookings are not detailed publicly because discretion is part of the job, which is the same reason clients in that bracket keep booking him. His agency, Motivate Talent, can confirm the work for a procurement team.
Are magicians worth it at a corporate event?
Yes, when the act suits the room. A band fills the air and a comedian needs a shared language, but a magician holds a seated international audience and gives them a story to tell on Monday. FTI Consulting have booked James five years running.
Does James have public liability insurance?
Yes, and the paperwork is sent ahead of the date rather than produced on the day. Whatever else your venue or procurement team needs is handled the same way, so nobody is chasing documents the week of your event.
How do I check a magician is any good?
Ask for a client who booked them twice and will speak to you. Ask which professional body they belong to and how they got in. Ask for footage from a room like yours, not a montage. Anyone who cannot answer all three is a risk.

Book James for your event

Arrange a call to talk through your date and your room. James will recommend the format that fits, send the showreels that match, and hold the date while you decide.
